State Insurance Corporation Gives Full Support to Junior Calypso Competition

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Monday 16th July (St. John’s, Antigua)... Embracing the cultural arts and advocating for youth development are merely some of the goals of the State Insurance Corporation (SIC) as the entity pledged its continued support, for the upcoming Junior Calypso Monarch Competition.

During the official sponsorship presentation on Friday 13th July, the Minister responsible for National Festivals, Honourable Daryll Matthew, expressed his gratitude to the board of directors, management, and staff at SIC for their continued support of the development of the junior artistes, as they embark on their journey to preserve the calypso art-form in Antigua & Barbuda.

This year marks the twelfth year that SIC has been the title sponsor of the competition, and during his presentation, Clint Gilpin, Chairman of the Board of Directors at SIC emphasized on the entity’s recommitment to the young calypsonians. He concluded with words of encouragement to the participants, and urged them to put their best foot forward in this year’s competition.

In the 5 – 12 category: 

  • Baby Shine
  • Calypso Lily
  • De African Prince
  • De Prophet
  • Hope of the Future
  • Lyrical Weapon
  • Princess Meka
  • Young Warrior

will make an attempt to dethrone the reigning monarch, Baby Eve. (G'Eve)

 

Challenging the 2017 monarch, King Vicious in the 13 – 18 category, include:

  • Daryn,
  • Deh Mytee BC,
  • Lady Clair,
  • Likkle John,
  • Mighty Mussy,
  • Princess Sylene,
  • Singing Shyla,
  • and Superman.

The State Insurance Junior Calypso Monarch Competition will be staged on Wednesday 1st August at 7:00 PM at Carnival City.
